Home truths and the Tressan Titbits

A few weeks ago there was an item on Home Truths (everyone's favourite Saturday morning show about small people and their small lives) concerning a Plastic Dog or rather a website about a plastic dog created by a few lads on holiday in France with associated stories of how they were avoiding going on long country walks and looking at Cathar Castles. A plastic dog and onlooking youth Stolen from plasticdog. read more...

Fly away

A revelation of the cheap-airline type happened last night - we were wondering if we could get a plane from Southampton to somewhere in France thus visiting rellies on the way, and found FlyBe who go to Perpignan. A worthy addition to the Ryanair - Jet2 axis. read more...

Restaurant review: Chez Fady

(Meze)

After the previous night's slightly disappointing fish escapades we decided to satisfy Jackie's moule cravings by going to Meze for lunch. For those not familiar with it, Meze is a small fishing village on the northern edge of the Etang du Thau, a huge lagoon and has an old fashioned port surrounded by fish restaurants. read more...

Restaurant review: Le Tournesol

(Clermont l'Herault)

We went on the pretext of getting fish - last October we also visited mainly due to there being a doctor's conference in the Harlequin and remember moaning about being cold and having small portions while admiring other people's large platters of seafood. Anyway we should have learnt from our experience because it was way too Nouvelle for it's own good, with over-small over-pretty over-expensive portions on big plates. read more...

The shoe-event-horizon

Jackie has been walking around wearing a very old (though obviously comfy) pair of ankle boots which are riddled with holes. Some time ago (at christmas) she was given a token, redeemable in the shop of her choice (yes, even Meadowhell) for a pair of nice new boots without holes in, but could we find a suitable pair of non-pointy black leather ankle boots with flat souls and some sort of grip, could we buggery. read more...

Local geography problems

The bridge at Canet is closed. Not that that seems to be stopping anyone driving across it regardless, a process which we tried and then abandoned as it involves going most of the way round several trees, across several crevasses and along the edge of a vast precipice before passing the many razor-wire fences to get into the village square. read more...
