Idle post-breakfast spiritual moment

I've just had a slightly dodgy nights sleep in a hotel in Cambridge. and idly flicking through the blog of my colleague Scott I turned up one of those annoying "what kind of person are you" quizzes. read more...

Buy Booze at Boots

While browsing through this week's Sheffield Telegraph Jackie came across an application for a licence to sell intoxicating liquor for consumption off the premises in the name of Boots Stores Limited. For some reason I can't see too many people going into Boots for a bottle of Vodka and 24 cans of Special Brew with their Sanatogen. read more...

The Last Rites

While walking through the station this morning (as I do every morning to get from the wrong side of the tracks to the right side of the tracks) I was confronted by a man in an orange flap jacket with a strange inscription on the back:
Miles Mitson, a railway Chaplain heads for the coffee bar
Eeek. What do they do. read more...

Blast from the past

In the dark mists of the past, before PHP and MySQL, I was involved with creating a rather fat and cumbersome website for a fishing tackle shop called Leslies of Luton. They must have been trawling google the other day and found mention of themselves on my very old and out-of-date cv. read more...

The incredible lightness of bed and breakfasting

This weekend we endured a little motorway madness to go to my Grandfather's 80th birthday party, a trip well worth making, and as ever lovely to see all the 3rd cousins, great-secound-uncles, nephews-once-removed and so forth. Bilbo Bagins himself would be proud of such a distinguished and complicated family tree of which this is just a fragment:

And the car got back in one piece and passed it's MOT. read more...

My legs are grey, my ears are gnarled, my eyes are old and bent

I went to get my eyes tested yesterday - because I keep having a slightly strange sensation that I'm seeing differently out of my right eye than I am out of my left, an odd and slightly migraine-like sensation. Anyway I was delighted to learn that I am the tiniest bit short-sighted and have a bit of astigmatism and don't need glasses at all: &nbsp
&nbsp
And after that, the nice man showed us some lovely expensive bling-bling shades pictured below which we did not buy: &nbsp
. read more...
