Being a bit fed up with my mobile phone costing that wee bit too much I am switching providers to T-Mobile... In fact I started out with them (as One2One) back in 1997 and have thence been through Orange and O2 contracts and more phones than I can remember. This deal is not-only cheaper but also includes unmetered internet usage - this is a serious change, remember when you first got broadband and stopped having to schedule internet time on the phone line, it's like that all over again.

p>They have sent me a Sony Ericsson k800i which is a smart new 3G cameraphone. The technology has been around for a while now but I think with phones like this that the time has finally come for 3G. Past phones looked rather bulky and didn't make much sense, this is only marginally larger than my old T630 and I'm sure the designs will get slimmer in the coming years. Video calling - which everyone had assumed would be the whole idea seems utterly pointless next to the phone's general internet abilities. Not only is it good for odd bits of mobile internet use either with the built-in browser or with the laptop (it clocked in at 400kbps when I tested it - nearly as fast as our broadband was back in Sheffield) but finally I have something to do with the camera. Posting images directly to a blogger account really is as easy as pie. Or as easy as dragon-plant.
I can really see it being a lot of fun using this feature! The nerds may be interested that it did get a bit confused when I changed the address of the target blog from the blogger control panel. The phone clearly didn't pick up the change and failed to post - but turning the phone on and off forced it to refresh whatever settings it had got stuck on and now it's working fine again.
