Liaisons Gourmandes, Gignac

A mere three hours after having lunch at the Creperie de la Comedie in Montpellier we found ourselves at Liaisons Gourmande in Gignac. Stomach wise this was perhaps a little on the ambitious side as our salads and crepes were not exactly small - however we somehow managed to squeeze in a whole three course meal and were pleasantly surprised. Liaisons Gourmande is on one side of Gignac's Esplanade and considering that Gignac is only really a village seems to be doing quite well even on a Thursday night in May. The place was clean and pleasant and the service friendly and attentive but not obsequious - in contrast to the Tournesol where they were being just that little bit over-polite.

Luckily for us, the starters and mains were not too enormous. I had a goat cheese salad and Jackie had "Croquettes de volaille" which were satisfyingly crunchy and had a flavour that grows as the bachemael trickles down your throat. Mains included very tasty and sensibly simple "Gigot d'agneau" and a "Curry de joue de pork" - the curry was a bit of a rash decision perhaps considering I had said only days earlier that I didn't see the sense in going to france and having imported food - but it was pleasantly spicy and so tender it was un-true.

Pudding at Liaisons Gourmande

The real highlights were the puds: Jackie had "Croustillant aux Pommes" - little parcels of fruit with a sugary cinnamon sauce and I had "Marquise au chocolat" - rather hard to describe being something between a mousse and a cake, delivered in thin slices with cream and chocolate sauces and suitably dressed up with gooseberry and swirlyness.
