The oldest tourist trap in Europe

After dropping Sarah off at Perpignan Airport, we headed up to Tautavel to visit Europe's oldest man....or so we thought. It turns out he is a composite of the skellingtons of 20 or so individuals. We were hoping for a mummified Peat Bog Man style exhibit. The museum itself was standard fare - lots of over-wordy wall displays, rather dull 'interactive' tactile objects and annoyingly cumbersome plastic commentary devices. Some of the displays were nice though, particularly the incy-wincy tiny rodent jaws and we were especially taken with the man in the cave with his ambiguous mechanical hand motion.

One real perk of this day out was the drive back to Perpignan over the most scenic of routes. It was a bit too windy to endure for too long but well worth a stop for breathtaking views of the landscape below and the Pyrenees beyond.

The magnificent view
