With Alex's recommendation firmly in our heads we thought that after getting home from some rather sad family duty in Yorkshire we would fill our bellies with a take-away from Welsh's Caribbean Restaurant. They have a very nice website including their take-away menus so with some high hopes we dialled up some curry goat, jerk chicken, saltfish fritters and rather mysterious "ground food". It took a bit longer than the half-hour mentioned on the phone to arrive but when it did it it was still nice and warm and had good smells coming out of the bag.

All in all it was good grub and very authentic tasting - the spice mixtures were clearly home-made and the chicken had that barbecued char-grill thing going on. Jackie said it reminded her of the smell of walking along the beach in Jamaica which is pretty conclusive. After a little puzzling we figured out that "ground food" must mean "vegetables from the ground" ie yams and green bananas (which grow on trees). We do have one little question as to whether the goat is actually goat. Having rarely seen goat for sale in the UK we often end up doing it ourselves using lamb or mutton even though it's not quite the same. The patties were fine too though the vegetable patty was a bit on the pedestrian side and I had hoped for a bit of calaloo or something inside. Jackie says that she would prefer the main dishes and rice-and-peas to be delivered in separate little boxes rather than together in big polystyrene containers, at least when being delivered for eating at home.

The takeaway has sold us on the concept and we will look forward to visiting the place for a sit-down in the not too distant future.
