We’ve just spent a rather pleasing evening at the theatre with Penny and Oliver. We began at with a meal at Tiggis, a slightly shiny pizza/pasta place on Bradshawgate in town. It was a bit a stretch of our imagination to think of somewhere half decent to eat in Bolton, but despite it's slightly loud music and large mirrors it did the job.
Then onwards to The Octagon to see a performance of The Importance of Being Earnest boasting a 2 man cast. Obviously this meant some seriously quick costume changes, ranging from the standard going off stage and coming back as a different character to hand puppets, disembodied wigs and much shaking of skirts. In spite of such frantic changes, the characters remained intact, Cecily was particularly nicely portrayed as a wonderfully sinister and mardy teenager. We have come away with our laughter muscles aching, having had a good workout. The cast of John Haynes and David Woods go by the name of Ridiculusmus and are well worth looking out for as they tour round the town and country for the next couple of months.
